Is Abortion Really Acceptable to the God of the Bible?

This is the response I am currently considering regarding the recent proabort ad claiming there is no Biblical justification against abortion. (Their arguments are referenced by "A", my answers by "B".)

A. Gen 2:7 – the “life is in the breath”; life begins after birth

B. God breathed life into Adam and Eve, but He did not come back and breathe life into anyone else. The child in the womb gets oxygen through the umbilical cord.

Gen 9:4; Lev 17:11, 14; and Deu 12:23 tell us that the life is in the blood. Jud 13:3, 5; Psa 139:13-16; and Luk 1:13-15 tell us that God knows every child before they are even conceived.

Either the child is alive in the womb or it is dead. There’s no quasi-state of existence. Since the child in the womb is growing, and no dead thing grows, it must be alive.

A. Exo 21:22-25 – causing a miscarriage

B. This regards two men fighting amongst themselves and accidentally striking a woman, causing her to miscarry. There is a world of difference between intentional murder and accidental death.

A. Num 5:11-31 – regarding adultery

B. God insists the marriage bed be holy, but He knows that a husband can be overly jealous. This served to vindicate the innocent, while punishing the guilty.

Sin typically begets sin. So, adultery had to be rooted out. This isn’t pro-abortion. It's anti-adultery. (FYI, the penalty for adultery was stoning, both parties. That’s how serious sin is to God.)

A. Deu 28:18-24 – the list of curses

B. I found it very interesting that they included this, because this is the list of curses that come upon a people for ignoring the word of God.

But is shall come to pass, if thou will not hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all His commandments and He statues which I commanded thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee – Deu 28:15

God’s law is absolute. It’s not something to trifle with. He is the Ultimate Supreme, and He is in complete control. No one escapes His hand. This list of curses is one of His warnings against disobedience. We will pay if we defy Him. He will see to it.

The rest of their quotes, including references to Noah’s flood, the conquest of Canaan, Sodom and Gomorrah, etc.; all had to do with sin. They are all punishments. They are about sin, not abortion.

What does the Bible say about shedding innocent blood, as in abortion?

Exo 20:13 Thou shalt not kill. – This was literally means we are not to kill anyone who hasn’t committed a sin worthy of the death penalty.

Exo 23:7 Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked. – Abortion epitomizes “a false matter”. God orders us to abstain from such things while emphasizing that killing the innocent is particularly wicked.

The children are exactly where God ordained them to be. Therefore, they are innocent and undeserving of the death penalty.

Gen 9:5 And surely your blood of your lives I will require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. – He will demand we explain ourselves, especially for the sin of murder.

Deu 19:10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, . . . and so blood be upon you. – This is part of a formula for blessings. God is saying that He holds us responsible for protecting innocent lives.

Psa 106:37, 38 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and daughters unto devils . . . and the land was desecrated by their blood. – Abortion is a nation killer. It defiles the land, and brings God’s wrath upon a people.

Deu 27:25 Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. – An abortionist is a hired killer. His goal is to kill the child. If the child were not alive, there would be no need to kill it. They do kill it, so it is most definitely alive. God has cursed those who commit this sin.

Pro 6:16-17 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood – The top three on God’s most unacceptable list are seen in abortion. It’s an abomination He absolutely hates.

Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. – This is one of God’s acknowledgements of the children. He knows them. He considers them. He values them, and He has a purpose for them. When we abort them, we defy Him.

We are created in the image of God to have a relationship with Him. Glorifying Him is our purpose for existing. The idea that He approves of abortion is absolutely unfounded in Scripture. Consider how the LORD responded to the killing of the first innocent:

“What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto Me from the ground. And now art thou cursed . . . “ Gen 4:10, 11

Innocent blood cries out unto the Lord. He hears it. He hears them, and it grieves Him greatly.

Space prohibits all that should be said about this. Check out my blog at www.children-of-the-heart.blogspot.com or come out to the abortuary where I preach almost daily to know more. In considering opinions, we must look at whether money is a factor. The referenced ad solicited donations, but God’s word is not for sale.

Do you know that many who commit or have abortions consider themselves Christian? Do you realize that many do not even realize Scripture is against it? I cannot count how many cars I've seen with Christian emblems on or in them. We need to set the record straight. Otherwise why do we profess to be His? If not to stand up for His word, what do we stand for?

Join with us. Help us strike the match that lights up this darkness. As long as we're still fighting for His truth, it isn't too late.
