Christ was crucified on Friday before sundown. The Jewish day runs from evening to evening. I believe it's from 6 pm to 6 pm. The true Sabbath runs from Friday evening to Saturday evening, making it the first of the three days. The second day would then be from Saturday evening to Sunday evening. The third would be from Sunday evening to Monday evening. Since He rose again early in the morning, this would be Resurrection Day.
The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath day was a high day) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with Him. But when they came to Yeshua, and saw that He was dead already, they brake not His legs Joh 19:31-33

The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulcher. Joh 20:1
